In its 17 years of existence, IOA has developed its own niche in da’wah products and services, as reflected in the following programmes :
Orang asli socio-economic development projectConverts development programme An estimated over 1000 new converts will be rendered various services in the 2006/2007 session, including evening and weekend Islamic Classes, one-on-one tutoring, counseling and other support group networks. It aims to bring a multi-pronged services to these indigenous people in their settlement, including weekly Islamic orientation and counseling, periodic clinical visits by doctors and dentists, as well as training in medical aids (for emergency cases) and health and sanitation. Children’s welfare sponsorship programme Launched in 1991, this program has afforded IOA to sponsor the education of children from poor families, particularly orphans and new converts, up to secondary (form V) level. Assistance given in the form of school uniforms and shoes, textbooks, monthly stipend and examination fees. We plan to sponsor 150 students for the 2006/2007 session including new converts hardcore poor, orphans and children’s of Orang Asli. Islamicare programme The handicapped and underprivileged, including the deaf, blind and disabled continue to be IOA’s main focus. Various programs have been organized such as sign language classes, skill development workshop, field trips, nasyid and Quranic reading competitions. These programs assist the handicapped in improving their knowledge & understand about Islam as well as educating the public on the plights and difficulties faced by the handicapped. Our volunteers are given special training before they are allowed to participate in the programme. Hospital visit taskforce The IOA volunteer group visit patients in Orthopedic, Spinal, Nefrology, Cancer and Neurology wards of the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. The volunteers would mingle with the patients to listen to their problems and to give them moral support, especially those from far places. Volunteer also help patients to read verses and prayers to strengthen their faith and instill patience to stand the test from Allah SWT. Inter-Faith and INTER-Religious Programme The programs aimed at fostering religious understanding among the various religious faiths in Malaysia. Dialogues and discussions on topics of common concern are held, bringing together viewpoints from different faiths. Join activities such as social services, culture shows and charity events are also organized to strengthen relationship among the various groups. Training for volunteers Being the integral part for the success of this program, IOA hopes to train more than 100 volunteers in the 2006/2007 session, to help in organizing various programs and activities. The training program includes workshops, field trips and skill development. |
